About Us

Planters Field Training Academy is the church multiplication initiative of The Woodlands Methodist Church (TWMC) located in suburban Houston, Texas. Our vision is to multiply God’s Kingdom by collaborating to support church planters.

TWMC is an orthodox, Wesleyan congregation offering eleven weekly worship services in a variety of styles across three campus locations — The Woodlands,  Woodforest, and Montgomery.

History

Founded as a new church plant by Rev. Edmund Robb III in 1978, The Woodlands Methodist Church has since grown to a membership of more than 14,000 — one of the largest Methodist congregations in the United States and the single largest church within its denomination, the Global Methodist Church. Rev. Mark Sorensen assumed the role of Senior Pastor following Robb's retirement in 2021. Today, under Sorensen’s leadership, the church continues to thrive, expanding its reach through vibrant services and multiple campuses, all dedicated to sharing the transformative message of Jesus Christ.

Spirit-Filled Mission

Since its inception, TWMC's mission has remained the same: Reach People for Jesus, Disciple Them in Faith, and Help Those in Need. The church's ministries are shaped in a prioritized framework to fulfill the three aspects of this mission. 

Core Vision

TWMC's future vision includes robust development of NextGen ministries, expansion of Missions outreach initiatives, resourcing the greater Church with discipleship tools, and the multiplication of new church communities.

In 2023 TWMC launched a Spanish language community to form TWMC en Español. TWMC also planted a new campus, The Church at Montgomery, in the nearby city of Montgomery. Future campus projects are being developed as TWMC works to impact the greater Houston region through church  multiplication.
